There are multiple ways to use this resource including:
Creative Play: Use the map mat and map building manipulatives to build your own maps. Ask learners questions such as, “How many houses are on your map?”, “Does your map have trees?”, etc.
Listening Comprehension: Place a map mat in front of the learner and an assortment of map building manipulatives. Call out commands such as, “there is a pond on the map”, ”the pond has two houses next to it”, etc. To make it more difficult, you can integrate positional words in your commands such as, “place a tree next to the house”, “place a mountain between two houses”, etc.
Visual Discrimination Puzzles: Present a map mat, assortment of map building manipulatives, and the map anchor cards to the learner. Have them select one anchor card and use the manipulatives to recreate the picture on the card on their own map mat.
