This week, students will read and explore I Am Martin Luther King, Jr. by Brad Meltzer as they learn about fairness, equality, peaceful protest, and the importance of standing up for what is right. Through discussion, vocabulary, and text analysis, students will focus on identifying the main idea and key details of a biography while exploring the life and contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Learners will discover how courage, perseverance, and nonviolence can help create meaningful change and protect the rights of others. Students will also read Equality’s Call by Deborah Diesen as a connected text, exploring the history of voting rights and the importance of ensuring that all voices are heard.
