I Talk Like a River by Jordan Scott

This week, students will read and explore I Talk Like a River by Jordan Scott as they learn about a boy who stutters and struggles to find confidence in his voice. Through discussion, vocabulary, and story analysis, students will focus on identifying cause and effect and analyzing how experiences shape a character’s feelings. Learners will explore themes of identity, acceptance, and self-confidence while recognizing that everyone communicates in their own unique way. Students will also read A Boy and a Jaguar by Alan Rabinowitz as a connected text, noticing how both stories show characters finding strength and confidence in who they are.
