This week, students will read and explore Nasreen’s Secret School by Jeanette Winter as they learn about courage, perseverance, and the importance of access to education. Through discussion, vocabulary, and story analysis, students will focus on identifying the author’s purpose while examining the problems and solutions presented throughout the story. Learners will discover that education is a valuable opportunity and that individuals can demonstrate extraordinary bravery when standing up for the right to learn. Students will also read The Sky of Afghanistan by Ana A. de Eulate as a connected text, exploring themes of hope, peace, and the dreams children share for a brighter future.
