This week, students will read and explore Rosie Revere, Engineer by Andrea Beaty as they follow Rosie’s journey of inventing, experiencing failure, and learning that mistakes are an important part of the engineering process. Through discussion, vocabulary, and story analysis, students will focus on making inferences about Rosie’s thoughts and feelings and explaining how her experiences cause her to grow and change. Learners will explore themes of perseverance, creativity, and resilience while recognizing that failure can lead to learning and improvement. Students will also read Violet the Pilot by Steve Breen as a connected text, comparing how both characters use creativity and determination to solve problems.
