Ruby Finds a Worry by Tom Percival

This week, students will read and explore Ruby Finds a Worry by Tom Percival as they follow Ruby’s experience of developing a worry and learning how it grows when ignored but becomes smaller when shared. Through discussion, vocabulary, and story analysis, students will focus on describing Ruby’s feelings and motivations and explaining how her actions help solve her problem. Learners will identify the problem and solution in the story while building emotional awareness and learning strategies for handling worries in healthy ways. Students will also read Jabari Jumps by Gaia Cornwall as a connected text, comparing how both characters face worries and find courage by talking about their feelings and believing in themselves.
