This hands-on garden-themed resource includes a garden bed mat, multiple pages of garden manipulatives, and task cards with garden-building challenges. It’s designed for flexible, repeat-use learning across a range of ages and skill levels.
Ways to Use This Resource:
Creative Play
Learners use the garden mat and manipulatives to design their own gardens. Encourage language and early math with prompts like:
- “How many flowers are planted in your garden?”
- “Are there more carrots or beets in your garden?”
Listening Comprehension
Place a garden mat and manipulatives in front of the learner and give oral directions, such as:
- “Place 3 carrots in your garden.”
- “Plant two purple flowers in your garden.”
For an added challenge, include positional language: - “Plant 3 lettuce along the side of your garden.”
- “Plant two carrots next to the lettuce.”
- “Plant 3 turnips under the carrots.”
Visual Discrimination Puzzles
Provide the garden mat, manipulatives, and puzzle anchor cards. Learners select a card and recreate the picture on their own mat, strengthening visual discrimination, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
