Belonging in Books | PreK–2nd Reading Comprehension Curriculum for Close Read and Read-Alouds
If you’re looking for a low-prep, high-impact way to bring purposeful comprehension instruction into your PreK–2 classroom or homeschool, this resource is for you! Part of the Belonging in Books curriculum, this unit supports deep thinking, joyful reading, and inclusive discussion using a powerful anchor text:
Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn by Kenard Pak
This week, students will read and explore Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn by Kenard Pak as they learn about seasonal changes and the many ways nature transforms throughout the year. Through discussion, vocabulary, and story analysis, students will focus on using their senses to observe the world around them while comparing and contrasting the characteristics of summer and autumn. Learners will discover that nature is constantly changing and that careful observation helps us better understand the environment. Students will also read Touch the Brightest Star by Christie Matheson as a connected text, exploring how slowing down, paying attention, and interacting with nature can deepen our appreciation for the world around us.
