My Family Celebrates Kwanzaa by Lisa Bullard
This week, students will read and explore My Family Celebrates Kwanzaa by Lisa Bullard as they learn about African American cultural heritage, family traditions, community, and the seven principles of Kwanzaa. Through discussion, vocabulary, and text analysis, students will focus on identifying the main idea and key details while examining how descriptive information helps explain the meaning and purpose of a celebration. Learners will discover how unity, cooperation, responsibility, and shared traditions help strengthen families and communities while honoring cultural identity. Students will also read Seven Spools of Thread by Angela Shelf Medearis as a connected text, exploring the importance of working together, solving problems peacefully, and practicing the values of unity and cooperation.
