This week, students will read and explore My Friend Earth by Patricia MacLachlan as they discover how the Earth cares for living things through the changing seasons and natural cycles. Through discussion, vocabulary, and story analysis, students will focus on visualization and identifying descriptive language to better understand how the author brings the Earth to life as a caring friend. Learners will explore themes of stewardship, appreciation, and responsibility while recognizing how the Earth supports plants, animals, and people. Students will also read Dear Earth… From the Kids of Room 5 by Erin Dealey as a connected text, exploring how people can give back and care for the Earth in return.
