Belonging in Books | PreK–2nd Reading Comprehension Curriculum for Close Read and Read-Alouds
If you’re looking for a low-prep, high-impact way to bring purposeful comprehension instruction into your PreK–2 classroom or homeschool, this resource is for you! Part of the Belonging in Books curriculum, this unit supports deep thinking, joyful reading, and inclusive discussion using a powerful anchor text:
Nigel and the Moon by Antwan Eady
This week, students will read and explore Nigel and the Moon by Antwan Eady as they follow Nigel’s journey of quietly holding onto his dreams and learning to share them with others. Through discussion, vocabulary, and story analysis, students will focus on retelling the story using key details and describing how Nigel grows and changes from the beginning of the story to the end. Learners will examine how Nigel’s feelings shift from shy and unsure to proud and confident, identifying the moments that help him develop courage and believe in himself. Students will also read Rocket Says Look Up by Nathan Bryon as a connected text, comparing how both characters pursue their dreams and grow through perseverance and self-belief.
