Belonging in Books | PreK–2nd Reading Comprehension Curriculum for Close Read and Read-Alouds

If you’re looking for a low-prep, high-impact way to bring purposeful comprehension instruction into your PreK–2 classroom or homeschool, this resource is for you! Part of the Belonging in Books curriculum, this unit supports deep thinking, joyful reading, and inclusive discussion using a powerful anchor text:

One Plastic Bag by Miranda Paul

This week, students will read and explore One Plastic Bag by Miranda Paul as they learn how one person’s idea can lead to meaningful change in a community. Through discussion, vocabulary, and story analysis, students will focus on identifying cause-and-effect relationships and understanding problem and solution within the story. Learners will explore themes of responsibility, innovation, and environmental care while recognizing how small actions can grow into big impact when people work together. Students will also read Rocket Says Clean Up! by Nathan Bryon as a connected text, exploring how taking initiative and working as a team can help protect and care for the Earth.
