Belonging in Books | PreK–2nd Reading Comprehension Curriculum for Close Read and Read-Alouds
If you’re looking for a low-prep, high-impact way to bring purposeful comprehension instruction into your PreK–2 classroom or homeschool, this resource is for you! Part of the Belonging in Books curriculum, this unit supports deep thinking, joyful reading, and inclusive discussion using a powerful anchor text:
Over and Under the Snow by Kate Messner
This week, students will read and explore Over and Under the Snow by Kate Messner as they learn about the hidden world of animals and ecosystems during the winter months. Through discussion, vocabulary, and story analysis, students will focus on identifying the main idea and supporting details while learning how plants and animals survive in different environments. Learners will discover that nature is full of activity, even when it appears quiet or still on the surface. Students will also read Over and Under the Pond by Kate Messner as a connected text, exploring how different habitats support living things and how ecosystems are filled with both visible and hidden forms of life.
