This week, students will read and explore Stone Soup by Jon J. Muth as they follow the monks’ clever actions and observe how their choices influence the villagers and lead to unexpected change. Through discussion, vocabulary, and story analysis, students will focus on identifying cause and effect relationships and explaining how characters’ actions cause events to happen in the story. Learners will build empathy and social awareness while exploring themes of compassion, sharing, and how working together strengthens a community. Students will also read Abuela’s Weave by Omar S. Castañeda as a connected text, comparing how characters in both stories contribute to their communities and how cooperation helps create something meaningful.
