This week, students will read and explore Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People’s Ears by Verna Aardema as they follow the chain reaction of events that begins with one small lie and grows into a much larger problem. Through discussion, vocabulary, and story analysis, students will focus on identifying cause and effect relationships and explaining how each event leads to the next in the plot. Learners will strengthen their understanding of story structure while exploring themes of honesty, responsibility, and how individual actions can impact others. Students will also read The First Dog by Jan Brett as a connected text, comparing how cause and effect relationships help explain how animals behave and how events unfold across both stories.
