This week, students will read and explore Oskar and the Eight Blessings by Tanya and Richard Simon as they learn about Hanukkah, kindness, generosity, and the importance of finding hope and belonging during difficult times. Through discussion, vocabulary, and story analysis, students will focus on identifying cause-and-effect relationships while examining how events unfold throughout the beginning, middle, and end of a story. Learners will discover that even small acts of compassion can have a meaningful impact on others and that kindness can help create connections across different backgrounds and experiences. Students will also read The Keeping Quilt by Patricia Polacco as a connected text, exploring Jewish family traditions, cultural heritage, and the ways meaningful objects and shared experiences help preserve family memories across generations.
