Belonging in Books | PreK–2nd Reading Comprehension Curriculum for Close Read and Read-Alouds
If you’re looking for a low-prep, high-impact way to bring purposeful comprehension instruction into your PreK–2 classroom or homeschool, this resource is for you! Part of the Belonging in Books curriculum, this unit supports deep thinking, joyful reading, and inclusive discussion using a powerful anchor text:
Ron’s Big Mission by Rose Blue and Corinne Naden
This week, students will read and explore Ron’s Big Mission by Rose Blue and Corinne Naden as they learn about fairness, courage, segregation, and the importance of equal access to opportunities. Through discussion, vocabulary, and story analysis, students will focus on identifying the main idea and key details while examining cause-and-effect relationships throughout the story. Learners will discover how one person’s determination to challenge an unfair rule can inspire change and help create a more just community. Students will also read Richard Wright and the Library Card by William Miller as a connected text, exploring the importance of access to books, libraries, and education while recognizing the courage required to stand up against discrimination.
