The Paper Kingdom by Helena Ku Rhee

This week, students will read and explore The Paper Kingdom by Helena Ku Rhee as they follow a young boy who imagines a magical world while learning about his parents’ important work as janitors. Through discussion, vocabulary, and story analysis, students will focus on making predictions using text and picture clues and describing the setting. Learners will explore themes of imagination, pride in hard work, and honoring the important roles people play behind the scenes. Students will also read A Bike Like Sergio’s by Maribeth Boelts as a connected text, comparing how both stories explore responsibility and integrity.
