What Your Child Will Learn

Our curriculum nurtures the whole child—academically, socially, and creatively—through meaningful, hands-on learning.

Math

Using hands-on, exploratory lessons and materials, children will love becoming mathematicians as they play and learn.

Year 1 Focus:
Introduce mathematical foundations such as patterns, shapes, and numbers to 10.

Year 2 Focus:
Build upon foundational knowledge and begin to solve beginning addition and subtraction problems, explore measurement, learn to compare, and begin to analyze information.

Phonological Awareness

Build a solid foundation for phonics using science of reading aligned lessons that introduce and build prereading skills such as recitation, rhyming, syllabication, alliteration, oral blending and segmenting, phoneme manipulation, and more.

Phonics

Aligned to the science of reading and the most recent research, your child will learn their letters and how to use them to read and spell using systematic and explicit lessons!

Year 1 Focus:
Move slowly through the alphabet learning all letter names and sounds and matching them to their corresponding uppercase and lowercase letter symbols.

Year 2 Focus:
Review all letter names, sounds, and symbols, and begin the beginning reading sequence of blending and encoding 2 and 3 letter words, learning about blends and digraphs, and beginning to read simple phrases and sentences when ready.

Reading Comprehension

Using thinking strategies such as story mapping, compare and contrast, text features, questioning, making connections, and more, build comprehension of fiction and nonfiction texts and learn how to use books in our research and writing, and for enjoyment.

Language

Using speaking and listening skills, children will build their language, vocabulary, and grammar through developmentally appropriate lessons and activities.

Year 1 Focus:
Develop an understanding of having back and forth topical conversations, speaking in complete sentences, asking and answering questions on topic, following multi-step directions, using and understanding prepositions, and more.

Year 2 Focus:
Continuing the skills from Year 1, and building tier 2 and tier 3 vocabulary use in everyday and topic specific conversations, asking and answering questions to obtain new information or clear up misconceptions, and connecting with others and having back and forth topical discussions.

Writing

Develop handwriting through a developmentally sequenced, multisensory approach.

Year 1 Focus:
Building fine motor skills and strength through hands-on activities that help develop pencil grip. Begin tracing and replicating prewriting lines and shapes.

Year 2 Focus:
Strengthening fine motor skills and refining their pencil grip while practicing prewriting pathways and introducing uppercase letter writing.

Project Based Learning

Complete unit guides walk your learners through deep dives into topics that are meaningful to them and help them connect to their learning, their community, and the world around them. PBL units integrate all content areas and also focus on science and social studies topics as well as integrating art, STEM, and social emotional learning.

Frequently asked questions

Can I join the membership at any time?

Yes, the Project Based Preschool memberships are open for enrollment at any time. You can also choose to pay in full and receive two months free. When you join the monthly membership you will start at Unit 1 and receive a new unit each month on your rebill date. The units are semi-aligned to the school year, but the majority of the materials included are not specific to a season or yearly theme and can be used at any time.

Can I choose the unit I start with?

No, when you subscribe to a monthly membership you will always start at unit 1. Each unit progresses and builds upon the previous just like it would in the classroom. The skills and standards covered follow a developmentally designed scope and sequence to help your learner build a solid foundation and not have any educational gaps or holes. If you would like access to all units at one time you can select to purchase the entire year bundle.

What are the differences between the tiers?

Tier 1 Includes:
Scope and Sequence for all content areas broken up into weeks, PBL Unit Guide, Curated Book List, Resource and Printables List, Free Printable

Tier 2 Includes:
Everything from Tier 1 and an additional 3-5 printables each month that go with the lessons in the scope and sequence and the PBL Unit

Tier 3 Includes:
Everything from Tier 1 and Tier 2 and 3-4 lesson presentation videos.

Which Preschool Year should I join?

Preschool Year 1 is designed for a child that has had no prior formal or intentional academic input. If your child knows a few letters or numbers that is okay, but they don’t need to know any of that to start in Preschool Year 1. This year is designed for 3-5 year olds at a pace that introduces academic concepts in a developmentally appropriate sequence, providing spiral review and practice to lay the foundation for PreK or Kindergarten the following year.

Preschool Year 2 is designed for a child that has had some prior formal or intentional academic input. This membership year is for ages 4-5 and moves at a quicker pace through the scope and sequence and culminates with the child being able to write uppercase letters, decode CVC (3 letter) words, count and write numbers, etc. This is equivalent to a PreK year and prepares students for kindergarten.
